Checking Out "Reggie" by Reggie Dabbs

REGGIE: You Can't Change Your Past, but You Can Change Your Future
How do you survive much less excel when it seems everything is against you?  Reggie Dabbs shares his story and how he beat the odds of a traumatic beginning in his book REGGIE: You Can't Change Your Past, but You Can Change Your Future.

Reggie Dabbs was born to a mother that sold herself to feed her other children.  His mother gave him up for adoption.  He was adopted by wonderful parents but he struggle as he grows up with the knowledge of where he came from.

Reggie takes us on his journey to redemption.  He shows how faith can change a person forever.  Chapter by chapter he takes us step by step through his life giving us the tools and faith we need to overcome hardship to excel.

I love the quote on the back of the book:
I don't have to know your name to know your pain...
I have my own.
I don't have to see your home to know your shame...
I have my own.
But someone loved me just the way I am,
and someone loves you just the way you are.

This quote says it all.  We all have pain and shame.  It may not be the same pain and shame but it's still pain and shame.  Reggie gives us the steps we need to overcome this pain and shame.  He has filled the book with his personal story and anecdotes, Biblical references, and the steps we need to succeed.

REGGIE: You Can't Change Your Past, but You Can Change Your Future reminds me that anyone can succeed in life.  It is the perfect book for anyone struggling but I feel that it is the perfect book for struggling teens and young adults.  Unfortunately, I do not know that they will get through the whole book.  It doesn't always your attention.  I do know that anyone (including me) would love to attend one of his motivational speeches.

Disclosure: I received this book free from the publisher through the BookSneeze®.com book review bloggers program. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.

"Blind Hope" - An Excellent Book

Blind Hope: An Unwanted Dog and the Woman She RescuedI finished reading Blind Hope: An Unwanted Dog and the Woman She Rescued last night.  It took me awhile to get through it.  I started reading it in January then got distracted with other things.  The beginning did not grab my attention.  It may just be because I had so much going on.  Once I did start reading it again, I was hooked.  I recognize myself in parts of this book.  It is so true, and heartfelt.

Blind Hope: An Unwanted Dog and the Woman She Rescued is about a woman dealing with her troubles and building her faith through the help of the dog she rescues.  She adopts this ugly, sickly, stinky dog.  She comes to realize that beauty comes from the inside.  It is an extraordinary work.  This is a true story.  there are so many excerpts that struck a cord with me.

One excerpt, that I think that many will recognize is below.  There are several people that fall into this category, at least at some point.  See what you think.

"She had mistaken God for a church, a group of people, and a set of rules.  When they failed her, she believed that God also had failed her.  God felt too far away to satisfy her needs.  Even though she had been raised in a christian home, she had never genuinely embraced her own relationship with God.  Instead, she assumed only enough Christianity to make her look good when she needed to.  Laurie learned how to wear faith like an accessory, choosing to bring it out only to complement her exterior appearance in order to blend in with others who had a deeper faith than her own."

It may take a little bit to get involved with this book but once you do you will be hooked.  If you have ever rescued a dog, this book is for you.  If you want to learn how to grow your faith, this book is for you.  The book is appropriate for all ages.  I think everyone can get something out of this book.

Disclosure:  I was given this book to review.  I did not receive any compensation for doing this book review.  I may receive the product or book from the public relations firm, manufacturer, publisher, or author in order to be able to review the product or book.  However, this does not bias my review in any way.  I will always give my honest and personal opinion of a product or book.

I Love You This Much: A Song of God's LoveHere is another great one.  I wish my kids were still little so I could read this to them.  You can get this free Kindle eBook, I Love You This Much: A Song of God's Love, for your family.  I would get this one for your Kindle on PC.  If you do this, the kids can see the pictures better and in color.  This could be great for Sunday School or Children's Time.

Don't forget that you can get Kindle for free on your PC, MAC, iPhone, iPad, and more.

Free Marriage Prayer Cards and CD

You can get 5 Essentials for a Thriving Marriage prayer cards and Intimacy Unveiled CD for free.  This was offered on Huckabee on Fox News.  What is more important than working to make your marriage better.

I have to admit that I get disgusted with others that seem to take the easy way out.  It takes hard work to make a marriage work.  I admit that it isn't always possible or right to stay in a marriage; however, there are many that just don't want to try.  Anyway, I can't wait to see what these prayer card and CD have to offer.
