First, I need to thank Maryland Momma's Rambles & Reviews. I found her post on this great way to help the children of Sandy Hook.
So many of us want to help in the wake of the Sandy Hook Elementary tragedy. I know most of us can not go there and help physically or donate money. Well, Ashley has found a way for us to help and to show our support.
So many parent teacher organizations around the country want to help, too. Several PTA organizations, including the National PTA and the Connecticut PTSA, got together with the PTA leaders of the schools in Newtown, CT. They discussed ways to help out. The first thing they want to do is to make the teachers and students feel welcome at their new school. They have come up with the Welcome Students to a Winter Wonderland project. What does this mean?
It means that they want to decorate the new building as a winter wonderland. They would love to have people from all over the nation to create and send a unique snowflake or snowflakes. You can do this any way you want. You can cut them out of paper, like I did in elementary school, or you can do some with glitter, or maybe some salt dough ornaments. Be creative. Place a little note on the snowflake letting them know that you are thinking and praying for them, if you want. You might even outline the snowflake with a short poem or words of what they mean to you or how you feel.
Will you do this? How about telling your child's teacher/school about this? I know there are many kids that are feeling the affects of this tragedy and feel the need to help, too. They can do this. Everyone is feeling this in there own way. No person is alike, just like a snowflake. Send in your snowflakes and help make a wonderful Winter Wonderland of caring for the Sandy Hook family.
Here is where you can send your snowflakes:
The Connecticut PTSA requested that you send your home-made snowflakes by January 12, 2013. Physical mailing information:

Such a lovely idea. Great that our kids can participate, too.
