‘Conversations With My Wife’ is the second play by Jermain Ayinde Warner, his first being Promises, which was produced at Cite-de-Arts in late 2012. 'Conversations With My Wife' is the story of Colin, a man who is seeing a therapist, about the death of his wife and the circumstances around it. He is heart-broken and angry and sad and lonely and is visited by his dead wife, and so ensues the conversation, which is wrenching and tortuous. It is dance between reality and fantasy, and more to the point a tug-of-war. Colin is caught in the middle burdened by the loss of his wife and the horrible circumstances of her death. And as a man, his manhood and his identity have thoroughly been shaken and to him stolen. It is a quest to restore some dignity, to resurrect the man he once knew. But he misses his wife and her call to him is very powerful and dangerous. It is the call of loss, love and longing. The therapist will try her best to make him find courage and accept the terrible loss of his wife, but Colin is stubborn and wounded, and so it an uphill battle. Plus, the revelations in this play will surprise and injure and show why Colin’s turmoil is so unique and so formidable. It is a story of love and endings and beginnings, and most of all forgiveness. It is the arduous journey and recovery of man dealing with the loss of a spouse. Jermain Ayinde Warner is also an artist and engineer, and immigrant from the lovely isle of Trinidad and Tobago.
The play features Monique Morton, Jack Robertson, and Catharine Arceneaux.
Directed by Dr. Maureen Brennan
