I've decided to do a few posts on the many uses of vinegar (and eventually other items that are commonly found around the house). Tonight, I am going to start with the ways to use vinegar with animals and insects. You will be surprised with all of the uses, and I'm sure I don't know all of them.
- Put a little bit of vinegar in your dogs drinking water. This will help get rid of fleas and other problems. We have 3 dogs, and this really seems to help. I pour probably about 1/4-1/2 c of vinegar in a pitcher and then fill it up the rest of the way with water.
- Use vinegar when you give the dogs a bath. If your dogs get a strong musky smell, rub them down with vinegar. Rinse them, and then use your regular dog shampoo. This should help with the smell, and again should help with fleas.
- If your dogs scratch their ears quite a bit, use some vinegar and water to clean their ears (inside and out). Not really sure why this helps, but it does.
- Use vinegar to get rid of urine stains in carpet. First get as much of the urine out of the carpet as you can with paper towels or a cloth. Then rinse a couple of times with warm water. You can then use equal parts vinegar and water to rinse the area. After you apply to the area, use a towel to soak up as much of the liquid as possible and rinse. Let air dry. If the stain is still there, repeat. You might check mixture in an obscure area to make sure it doesn't discolor your carpet.
- We have several fish tanks. I HATE those deposits on the glass. It is so ugly. However, you can get rid of those ugly deposit stains by rubbing a little bit of vinegar on deposits with a cloth. Make sure you rinse before putting fish back in tank.
- We have cats, but they are outdoor cats. I am allergic to cats. So, I really haven't used this one, but I know some people have. Anyway, to keep cats from scratching in certain areas put vinegar in those areas.
- If you have problems with ants, you can use vinegar to get rid of them. Just put some in a spray bottle. Spray around areas where you have problems with ants. Make sure you spray around windows and/or doors, under sinks, and along any ant trails.
