Tuesday's Thrifty Tip: Homemade Dishwasher Detergent

Here is another great way to save money, especially for those that don't necessarily like to coupon much.  You can make your own dishwasher detergent.  I was a little hesitant about this when I first heard about this, but I LOVE this one.  In fact, I think it works better than most (if not all) of the detergents I've bought in the past.  It is super easy to make!!

Here is what you need:
Large bowl or bucket
Large spoon
1 Box of Borax
1 Box of Washing Soda
5 c Epsom Salts
20 Envelopes of unsweetened lemonade (optional)

Mix all of the ingredients in the large bowl or a bucket.  Then put in an airtight container.  You only need to use 1 tablespoon for each load.

The lemonade gives a fresh scent but more importantly the citric acid helps clean the dishwasher itself.

I'm not sure how many loads you will get out of this.  It looks like mine will last me at least 6 months if not a year.  I spent less than $10 on this.  I would call this a great deal.

Don't forget that you can make your own Homemade Laundry Detergent.  It is super easy, too.
