First, let me apologize for not posting much the past week or so. Things have been difficult around here for a couple of weeks but we have also been blessed with wonderful friends and family. I don't know what we would do without them.
Our tub was draining very slow. We tried to snake it. It didn't make any difference. Then a day later my washing machine drain started overflowing. When we looked under the house, it was flooding under there. We had to call a plumber. Thank God, our church had the name of a great plumber. He was very reasonable. Part of the problem was that there was not a cap on an old pipe no longer used.
When we first moved in, we redid almost all of the plumbing and had the washing machine moved from the kitchen to another room. I guess they decided that they did not need to put a cap on the old drain pipe. Needless to say, I was quite upset. It explains why it was always damp under the house. In addition, it explains why there is so much erosion and sink holes around the house.
The new plumber got part of it fixed on Friday. He had to wait until it dried up under the house a little before he could finish the job. He got the pipe capped off. For the tub, he had to replace the drain. The drain did not clear it all up. He still had to snake out some more pipes to get it fixed. Thankfully, we have wonderful people in our life that helped us out. Finances have been very tight.
My husband and kids were off for several days. Shane and I worked in the yard. It was in very bad shape. We hadn't done much out there since I got sick. I built a new fire pit. When we get a little money, I will finish it. I built it with some bricks we had. It still needs some mortar. Shane mowed the grass. We both cut back the jungle in the back and along the side fence. It is starting to look good. There is still more to do but it is getting there.
Saturday, I spent most of the morning on the phone with LSU. My son is planning on going there next year. I was very upset because they are not giving him enough financial aid. They are still basing their decisions on last year's income. This year, our income has been cut almost in half. LSU do not want to give me a special circumstances application until July. Meaning I have to worry until school starts about him having enough money. In addition, it looks like he will not be able to stay in a dorm because there is a waiting list of over 600. We have not been able to send his housing application because we do not have the money for it. My son is wonderful though. He was like, "no big deal." He said he could probably find an apartment and that it would probably end up cheaper.
Yesterday, Shane went to a funeral in New Orleans. He stopped at a rest area on his way home. When he got back in his car, it would not start. It wasn't the battery because the lights, radio, and windows were working. I had to go get him. Then we had to wait for the tow truck to get there. Thankfully, the car is still under warranty and we have great roadside assistance.
On top of everything, I had a couple of bad episodes. My pain was pretty bad this week. I'm sure it had to do with trying to do too much and all of the stress.
While there have been several trying times, there have been many blessings. We all have to look on the positive side of things. It is difficult at times, I know. However, we have to believe that things will get better. I hope all of you have wonderful friends and family, like I do.
